Implementation of the intersection tunnel (King Abdullah Road - Riyadh) mid-December

Al-Ahsa Municipality begins implementing its project to develop the intersection of King Abdullah Road, the “inner ring” road, with Riyadh Road (constructing a 1,500-meter tunnel), with the aim of reducing traffic congestion at the intersection, smoothing the flow of traffic for vehicles, and contributing to providing free traffic movement north and south on King Abdullah Road. The Ring Road is a vital intersection as the western entrance to Al-Ahsa towards the city of Riyadh, as well as for those heading to the sister Arab Gulf countries (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain). Al-Ahsa Mayor, Engineer Essam bin Abdul Latif Al-Mulla, revealed that the project contains two directions with 3 lanes, with the implementation of all service, infrastructure and aesthetic specifications for the project, in addition to the construction of service roads on both sides of the tunnel, 3 lanes in each direction, parking lots, sidewalks and landscaping. Al-Mulla stressed that these projects are complementary to the development projects undertaken by the Municipality, as they will contribute to providing traffic solutions in accordance with the latest systems in place to achieve smooth vehicle movement, reduce traffic congestion, and maintain public safety. On the same level, Al-Ahsa Municipality, in coordination with the Traffic Department, has begun determining the alternative traffic plan and diversions to begin implementing the project to develop the intersection of King Abdullah Ring Road with Riyadh Road in mid-December 2023 AD. The municipality explained that according to the alternative traffic plan for vehicles during the project implementation period, it will be compatible with the possibility of vehicle movement to reach the sites surrounding the project, and in all directions, according to alternative paths that ensure the flow of traffic, as turning points will be added before the intersection from all directions to facilitate the traffic movement of vehicles. As well as access to shops and residential neighbourhoods, stressing the importance of adhering to the alternative traffic plan during the project implementation period, which aims to contribute to eliminating congestion and smoothing traffic flow at the intersection.
