The official spokesman for Al-Ahsa Municipality, Khalid bin Muhammad Boushal, revealed that the first quarter of the current year 2024 witnessed the planting of 147,865 (trees and shrubs) in order to achieve the pivotal goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and the related commitments for this year, which are planting 800,000 trees.
Bushell noted that the Secretariat sought to activate many programs that fall within the objectives of the Green Saudi Initiative, including (enhancing community participation by linking the license to supply electricity to new homes with a requirement to plant 3 trees, with the Secretariat ensuring their security after submitting an electronic request to do so, intensifying the Secretariat’s efforts in Planting trees in gardens, parks, main roads, squares, and projects to increase the efficiency of roads, bridges, and tunnels, enhancing the participation of government sectors in the initiative by ensuring trust for trees and participating in their planting in the facilities of those sectors. This also included supporting public education schools and contributing to the afforestation work in mosques and mosques, allocating corners in Various community activities aimed at distributing tree seedlings, completing a project to establish 14 gardens as part of urban humanization projects, the objectives of which are to increase vegetation cover and raise the per capita share of green areas, implementing the greenhouse and “agricultural seed” project, which aims to double the annual production of the secretariat’s agricultural nursery in One year to half a million “trees and shrubs” seedlings. The secretariat recently launched the “We Plant for You” initiative, which aims to plant trees in front of citizens’ homes, after applying for the initiative through the secretariat’s electronic portal. This service comes as an extension of the secretariat’s efforts towards developing vegetation and promoting positive behaviors to preserve environment and improving the quality of life), in addition to that the Municipality is an active member of the Al-Ahsa Oasis Conservation Committee, which is headed by His Highness the Governor, as this committee aims to protect the oasis and contribute to the preservation and sustainability of the agricultural area.
For his part, Director of the General Department of Parks and Gardens, Muhammad Al-Sulaiman, explained that the secretariat aims to contribute to increasing vegetation cover by planting 800,000 trees and shrubs during the current year, in the first quarter of which (130,833 trees and shrubs were planted, community participation in planting 15,232 trees, and planting the walls of 16 cemeteries. (about 1,800 trees), pointing out that the secretariat worked to study and define the paths and tasks supporting the achievement of the pivotal goals of the initiative, which are represented in “developing a guide for approved plants according to the local climate, studying the productivity of the secretariat’s nursery and the possibility of covering the need for plants and methods of developing them, supporting mechanisms aimed at involving the local community.” And the private sector in the field of tree planting, providing a unified digital database to view performance indicators, updating the timetable and executive plan for planting cemetery walls, and supporting volunteer participation in this.”
