A report issued by Al-Ahsa Municipality, represented by the Services Agency, revealed that during the first quarter of the current year 2023, solid waste amounting to 43,598 tons was sorted and recycled.
The Municipality’s Undersecretary for Services, Engineer Fahd bin Muhammad Al-Zahrani, explained that this comes as an extension of the initiative to address visual distortion and improve the urban landscape, and within the ongoing scheduling of comprehensive programs carried out by the Municipality to raise the level of services in residential neighborhoods and enhance community awareness in preserving the environment, explaining that sorting and recycling work It included (18,131 tons of organic materials, 2,236 tons of paper and cardboard, 746 tons of plastic, 324 tons of metals, 22,160 tons of inorganic materials)
While the Director of the General Department of Cleanliness, Ayman bin Abdul Rahman Al-Dhafar, indicated that strengthening public cleaning efforts and work comes within the priorities of the municipal services system in accordance with the objectives of the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing, in a clear path with specific goals, including those related to organizing and supervising all waste-related activities and enhancing responsibility. Community development among individuals to achieve sustainable development, encourage investment plans in it, and increase its quality on the basis of economic principles in waste management to achieve environmental preservation factors in society.
Al-Dhafar stated that the statistics of the construction waste sorting and recycling station in the first quarter of this year indicated that the station received an estimated 157,587 tons, and the amount of recycled waste reached 72,398 tons, or 46%.
Al-Dhafar added... while the amount of waste received for the environmental landfill amounted to 148,060 tons, which included (115,941 tons of household waste, 15,808 commercial waste, 6,911 tons of vehicle tires, and 9,400 tons of slaughterhouse waste).
