The Deputy of Al-Ahsa Municipality for Projects, Eng. Abdullah Al-Otaibi, explained that as an extension of the municipality’s continuous efforts to achieve the goals of the Quality of Life Program and humanize cities by enhancing municipal services, most notably the development of roads, “one of the strategic goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030,” work is currently underway to implement the project to develop and improve the efficiency of roads located within the agricultural oasis and linking cities and towns, which (are considered to be roads transferred by service from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services to the Al-Ahsa Municipality), with a completion rate of about 60%. He explained that the project contributes to the sustainability of the operation of the existing road network according to technical standards and specifications with high efficiency. Eng. Abdullah Al-Otaibi revealed that the roads targeted by the development plans for the current year 2024 included 11 roads, 8 of which have been completed, while steps are underway to complete 3 other roads (Al-Uqair Road, Prince Abdulrahman bin Faisal bin Turki Road, Abdullah bin Jaafar Road), and the development works on these roads include "asphalting, raising the level of traffic safety, expanding lanes, maintaining and constructing sidewalks, and guidance signs". In addition, and based on achieving the goals of measuring the quality of main and connecting roads and determining their maintenance and development priorities, the Al-Ahsa Municipality, represented by the Projects Agency, has strengthened its procedural plans in this path by developing and operating a road maintenance management system using (surveying and evaluation equipment supported by artificial intelligence), and the municipality aims through this step to contribute to determining the condition of roads through several indicators, the most important of which is the "pavement condition index" to determine the quality of roads and maintenance priorities, and raise the level of traffic safety on them.
