The UNESCO Creative Cities Network announced that Al-Ahsa, represented by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shabeeth, won as Vice President of the Creative Cities Network in the field of handicrafts and folk arts, which number 66 cities in the world. Al-Ahsa won membership in the global network in the creative field at the initiative of the Al-Ahsa Municipality in 2015. In light of the integrated efforts of the supporting national bodies represented by (Al-Ahsa Governorate, Al-Ahsa Municipality, Culinary Arts Authority, Saudi National Committee for Education, Culture and Science, Heritage Authority, Royal Institute of Traditional Arts).
This comes in line with Al-Ahsa’s creative potential, which places it among its counterparts in countries around the world, in addition to its rich cultural heritage and long history in the field of handicrafts and folk arts.
“Al-Ahsa Creative” worked to develop the general objectives of the importance of integrating and highlighting the link between education and cultural and creative activities to enhance the sustainability of handicrafts and folk arts, which enabled Al-Ahsa over the past years to transfer its expertise and experiences in preserving handicrafts and folk arts to creative cities around the world through many Among the international meetings and gatherings in “Korea, Poland, France, America, Australia, Brazil,” Al-Ahsa is considered the first Gulf city and the third Arab city in the global network in the creative field, achieving close cooperation for development programs between creative cities with the aim of sustainable development and working to preserve heritage, In addition to the exchange of experiences and complementarity between member cities.
