Al-Ahsa Municipality emphasized the importance of the engineering environmental landfill project as it is considered one of its most important projects that contribute to the process of environmental sustainability by sorting and recycling waste and reusing it in many industries, and also ensuring that waste is treated in accordance with the environmental controls and requirements of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing and the National Center for Management Waste to maintain a clean environment free of pollutants.
The secretariat explained that it uses technologies that contributed to generating the energy used in the environmental engineering project of the landfill, which includes a station to generate electrical power from gas resulting from the waste buried in the landfill. This energy has already been utilized to operate lighting poles for the internal roads of the landfill as a first stage, while future endeavors are aimed at Increasing the rate of utilization of energy resulting from waste.
The municipality noted that the engineering environmental landfill includes 3 stations: a household waste sorting station that receives household waste and sorts recyclable materials such as “paper, cardboard, plastic, iron and metals,” and a construction waste recycling station through which construction waste is sorted and recycled and returned in the form of products. It is used in various industries, including “layers under the foundation for roads, the manufacture of bricks and bricks used in constructing sidewalks, construction materials for gardens and beautification,” and an electric power generation station from the gas resulting from the landfill, which works to convert the gas resulting from the decomposition of waste into electrical energy.
